mbr infectors are quite rare, nowadays as they tend not to be able to
spread once windows has loaded....

as such, most existing mbr infectors are positively ancient and any
decent scanner should be able to detect them when present...

I am wondering if you got hit by a new version of Opaserv. Do you have
network - home - or otherwise - connections? Its funny but the post just
above your post regards a version of Opaserv. Just recently it was
mentioned in a news article as one of the bad viruses of the year. That one
did not do great damage on Windows 2000 or XP but this one might.
The Opaserv virus is one of the few today that destroy MBR data as its
payload if allowed to run.

Boot sector and MBR infectors continue to be reported almost every month, and
although they cannot spread back to a floppy, any system can still catch one.

Even a system running linux.

Do you deal with a lot of old floppies?
