Post subject: w32.blaster.worm is gone (I think) but I have no memory to perform any tasks
Archived from groups: alt>comp>virus (more info?)

Hello

I was infected with the w32.blaster.worm virus today and after 14
hours of trying to get my computer running right I am desperate.

I downloaded Mcafee Anti Virus and it scanned, found it & deleted it.
I also downloaded Stinger from Mcafee and this did the same thing. I
downloaded the security patch fix from Microsoft and when I rebooted
my computer is running at a snails pace. There are no processes
running in task manager and no memory being hogged (as far as I can
see) but I can't do anything with my computer.

The first thing I noticed upon reboot was that the sound on my
computer was gone. The volume control is gone completely. Then I
noticed that I can't open anything, it says low memory. I can't run
Anti Virus because it says I don't have enough memory. I also can't
respond to or forward any emails in Outlook Express, I can't disable
system restore (per the Mcafee instructions) and I can't even download
a firewall from Mcafee because I keep getting script errors.
I tried downloading Norton, but I don't have enough memory to load it.

I went into regedit per the Mcafee instructions and deleted msblaster
and I can't find it anywhere on my computer (I can't do a search
either).

What can I do? I did a couple system restores the past couple days
before I knew what I was dealing with so I think maybe it is in there
somewhere.

I have 2 hard drives, and beyond formatting is there anything I can
do? I am at my wits end. I would appreciate any help. I am not a
computer expert so if you have any advice please explain fully for me.

For some reason I can still surf the net, but even that isn't working
right. and is sluggish. I can't even cut and paste or drag icons or
copy anything so that I can save things and reformat.

Please help,
Thanks,
Rich
