i can't boot my computer because it is reporting a hard disk virus
problem. on POST it says okay but then goes on to request to book from
floppy. i went to setup and removed any link to boooting from floppy
and the problem still says it has to boot from floppy. i have gone
through so many entries on this group and have found none related to
mine.
thanks for any help. by the way, the system asks me to create a
bootable floppy but i can't find anywhere on the net on how to do so.
yours

So you just automatically assume it's a virus?

the hard disk comes with a TrendMicro Antivirus program and that's what
it reports to me but on POST it says IDE-0...ok. then proceeds to
request to boot from floppy. a colleague inserted a floppy in the drive
while booting this morning, that's where the problem started.

Inconsistent information. What application does reports a virus, TrendMicro
Antivirus? How come, since the AV is installed to the drive and the drive
doesn't boot?

Which means that hard drive 0 is recognized by the BIOS. This doesn't mean that
the drive configuration and operating system are intact.

The request to boot of a floppy could be issued by the BIOS or by the OS (boot
sector or system loader). If the previous, then the problem could be hardware,
the setup of the hard drive in the BIOS, or an unrecognized partition type in
the MBR. If the latter is the cause, then it may be a corrupted boot sector, or
a corrupted / missing system file.

A better guess on what the real problem is can be given after you tell us the
EXACT phrasing of the error message and provide an exact description at what
stage you see it.

You should also verify your hard drive settings in the BIOS and their matching
to the drive type. Please post that info here too.

I downloaded them yesterday, and tried them a little while ago.
I like the interface much better. The only thing I noticed,
was the instruction to exit the editor stated to hold down
the alt key, and press the down arrow to select exit, but it
requires Alt+f, then arrow down to exit.
