Been having huge problems getting on the internet all day. My email works
but when I try to browse the internet all I get is "Page cannot be
displayed"
I am running WINXP and using Bell Sympatico High Speed.
I ran Adaware, Spybot and did a virus scan (McAfee), each program detected
some exe and dll files and deleted them.
When I try to browse I also get the following at the bottom:
Downloading from site: res://c:\windows\system32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm
anyone have any ideas? This is really frustrating.
Thanks

Try turning off your firewall and see if you have the same problem.
I had DSL once, and thats what the problems was for me. You might have a
conflict.
Just an idea.

Back in 2000, this same problem was caused by a bad .dll
in an update.
Try the microsoft.public.win98.gen_discussion NG. The MVPs
there should have a solution.

Check that the Home Page setting under Tools\Options has not been set
to res://c:\windows\system32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm. I've seen it
happen.

Might sound daft, but have you set any up rules and inadvertently blocked
yourself? I had the same trouble with NIS 2004 until I checked the logs and
realised I had included myself in a blocked address range! >> Stay informed about: virus or adware/spyware causing this problem |

Nope, didnt do that either.
I noticed that I was getting pop ups as soon as I would log onto yahoo. I am
thinking that its a adware issue but I am not 100% certain.

Are you able to ping your ISP's DNS server?
Have you a modem? If so have you tried via a dial-up account?
