Post subject: Anyone having trouble downloading from Computer Associates
Archived from groups: alt>comp>anti-virus (more info?)

I've renewed my EZAnti Virus and am trying to download the new version
from their site. I'm using all their suggested path for doing this. I'm
consistently getting 35% of the download and then an intercept telling
me that the server has reset and the program can't be downloaded. I'm
also getting an intermittent error message on the CA site that says
cookies are disabled. Mt cookie settings are medium, which has always
been adequate with no failures. I even tried changing their site to
"accept all cookies" and I still can't download.
Can anyone with EZAntiVirus shed some light on this issue for me? I have
an email into their support and am waiting for an answer.
Thank you very much
Dudley

Hi Dudley......long time no see!! I also use EZ Trust and had no problems
downloading it last week. I will admit that their website is atrocious tho.

Hopefully someone from CA is reading this and will do something about it. I
seem to go round and round in circles any time I need something on there.

I always use "Save" when downloading programs......and then open them from
my Download Folder......for two reasons. One, it is faster, I
think.......but more importantly, if my WinME doesn't like the new update,
then I can remove it, do a System Restore and go back to the original one.

The download is 4.12 meg.......so doubt I could send it to you. But I will
find the page I downloaded from and paste it here......assuming I can find
it again, grin. OK......it is in the Knowledge Center.....ask Sammy for
6.2.

Hey Heather; how the heck are you? Thanks for seeing this. I'm having a
mess, and this is unusual for CA. It's a complete puzzle so far.
I renewed last night (my 3'rd with them ) and got the new codes, which
I'm holding off for the next several days to wait for my expiration date
as they suggest. I have version 6.1.7.0.
After I renewed and got the codes, I noticed the new version was
available 6.2.0.28. I went in through the login/order history/download
path and tried downloading the new version. At 35% I got an intercept
telling me that the server had reset and that the program couldn't be
downloaded. Tried doing it several times with the same result. I'm
assuming it's THEIR server and not Earthlink's that's resetting as
everything else is normal.
This morning I tried to access again and it did the same thing; only
this time I'm getting an intercept on their site that says I have
cookies disabled. As far as I know,( I checked it visually) my setting
in IE 6.0 privacy is the default (medium) which has always worked for
everything before.
Waiting for CA to answer me now. I sure hope it's them and not anything
on my end!! Smile
Good to hear from you again Heather. Hope all is well with you these
days.

Hi Dudley,

I just tested the main download server and everything checks out OK. Are
you able to download OK from other FTP servers?

Try the link again: ftp://ftpez.ca.com/pub/myeTrust/apps/EZAntivirus.exe

Try right click > save target as...

Hola.....grin. I downloaded it via the same path you are attempting. And I
have had it for 3 or 4 years as well. I really think they ought to make
their website less intricate, for lack of a better word. I do have
support/sales addresses but they are for Canada......

Hang in there, try James' link and download it as a "Save" and hold onto it
until 6.1 expires.......then the fun begins trying to put the serial numbers
in.....grin. I have to walk my brother-in-law thru that every time. It is
an s.o.b. to do.

All is well now.....last year was not. We are leaving for Scotland and
England in two weeks. Trip of a lifetime for us......to see my ancestral
home and stomping grounds (circa 1800). Also meeting up with some genealogy
friends in the south of England. I am totally unorganized as usual. (G)

Good luck on the download.....it should work. Perhaps it has something to
do with your ISP.....who knows. But I find that the CAI sales/support
people there are pretty good.

And likewise....I hope all is well with you and your family.

Cheers.....Heather

Hi James.
Just tried your link. Same thing happened; 35% then a server reset.
Could this be MY Earthlink server perhaps? I'm going to try and download
something from another site and see what happens.

Dudley,

Was this also an FTP site? If not, then this wasn't an accurate test. So
far there have been 3 differe people, 3 different locations, 3 different
ISP's - 2 can download 1 cannot. It very well could be Earthlink and how
they handle FTP transfers. Have you been using Earthlink since your last
download?

I just picked getright out of the blue to test if it would download. I
believe it's an FTP site but I don't know how to check that. The path
was www.get-right.com/
/free trial version/DOWNLOAD (above the mirrors)
It downloaded perfectly. I've not had prior trouble with anything until
the CA issue last night. Earthlink shows no system problems.
How can I check if something is file transfer protocol?

I just took a look at these URL's, they are all HTTP, none are FTP. You can
just take a look at the full URL to determine if it is FTP (File Transfer
Protocol) or HTTP.

I'd suggest contacting Earthlink directly, we've had situations with users
experiencing downloading problems in the past and it's all due to the way
their ISP handles FTP traffic. The CA download servers are distributed
globally, so you'll always download from the server closest to you.

Update Smile)
I just checked Earthlink's support site. They DO have a maintainence
warning for Pa (my state) for 5/24 that says there might be disconnects.
COULD BE!!!!! Smile))

Many thanks. I'm playing with it. If it's Earthlink, they should have it
fixed by tomorrow. Thanks for the FTP tip also.

What's puzzling is that I've changed absolutely nothing in the settings
that would have changed my configuration. Oh well, perhaps Earthlink's
maintenance message is involved somehow. Anyway, have a great trip and
look out for Nessie!!! Smile

Grin.....not going near Nessie's Loch. But will be near Lockerbie and
staying in the house that my Bowness ancestor lived in about 1790. The
present owner is as crazy as I am, so look out Scotland!! His wife says she
will pretend she doesn't know Bob and I.....lol.

Cheers.....Heather
