Both W2K server and XP Pro have the ability to update the time directly from a
time server on the Internet (not sure about W2K Pro). All NT style systems also
have the ability to update the time from a local server via a command line
command of NET TIME \\<computername> /SET. If you are all running a time
sensitive program (eg. updating a central database with a time stamped record),
that program can also get the time from the local server and update your system
time. Several of my programs create a file on the server, get the GMT time of
the file creation, add the local time offset, kill the file on the server, and
update the local time on the connecting computer. This ensures that any query
sent to the central computer is coordinated with the server's time. If that
server's clock is inaccurate, all the machines connecting to it will also be
innacurate.
