Archived from groups: alt>comp>anti-virus (more info?)

Hello. I got an email from someone I think would like to harm my
reputation. I opened the email before I realized who it was from. I have
good anti-virus software but no anti-spyware software. Is there a shareware
version or trial version of some good anti-spyware program that I can run to
see if I have any harmful spyware on the PC?

Thanks.
Bill

Go to download.com. Enter "free anti spyware". Several free versions will
be displayed.

Spybot Search-and-destroy AND Ad-Aware SE Personal are but two (of many)
rather decent, free (not trial, but free) spyware programs out there for
use. A Google should find more.

_____

SuperAntiSpyware/SuperAdBlocker, free trial at
http://www.superadblocker.com/?tag=SUPERADBLOCKER , in addition to the two
mentioned by 'nomad' (after the trial period, I bought and installed it on
three computers; I've never detected spyware in 42 years of computer use,
but I can highly recommend its elimination of nearly all ads when surfing
the Internet [doesn't even download most.])

If you use a Pop3 mail program (Outlook Express, for example), then I
recommend a program like 'Magic Mail Monitor'. It downloads just part of
the header for each email, and allows you to delete unwanted email without
ever downloading the message. You can also check suspicious email in text
only. 'Magic Mail Monitor' is free at
http://mmm3.sourceforge.net/ .
