Archived from groups: alt>comp>anti-virus (more info?)

This taken from the www.mcafeehelp.com forum posts by its admin.

NOTE: The steps that I have below include more files then the manual
uninstall that is posted. There also isn't a full manual uninstall for the
Security Center. These steps will remove the MSC.

Manual Uninstall of the Security Center and VirusScan.

Edit the registry

From the taskbar, click the Start button.
Click Run.
Type regedit and click OK.
Press the Home key on your keyboard.
The Registry Editor appears. From the menubar, click Registry.
Note: If using Windows XP, click File.
Click Export registry.
In the "File Name" field, type backup.
Click Save.
Note: If you need to restore the registry, double-click on the backup file
to restore it.
Click (+) next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Click (+) next to Software.
>>>Delete the Mcafee.com folder under Software if the Security Center is the
only program that you have left.
Then Click (+) next to Microsoft.
Click (+) next to Windows.
Click (+) next to CurrentVersion.
Select the Run folder.
Right-click and delete each of the following (if present):
.. VirusScan Online
.. MCUpdateExe
.. MCAgentExe

Click on the plus next to uninstall
Scroll down and delete the McAfee Security Center folder

Note: If you have any other McAfee items in this folder, delete them.

Close the Registry Editor.
Restart your computer.
Remove your Temporary Internet files (cache)
Close any applications running in the background.
Open Internet Explorer.
On the menubar, click the Tools.
Click Internet Options.
The Internet Options dialog box appears. On the General tab, click Delete
Files in the "Temporary Internet files" section.
Check the Delete all offline content box and click OK.
Click Apply, if available.
Click OK to close the window.
Delete all McAfee files/folders
From the taskbar, click Start.
Click Run.
Type Explorer and click OK.
Double-click My Computer.
Double-click C: drive.
Delete the MC?????.tmp folder(s), if present.
Note: ? = these could be numbers or letters.
From the C: drive, double-click Program Files.
Delete the Mcafee.com folder.
If it doesn't let you and you get an error then open the Mcafee.com folder
and delete VSO, Shared, and restart the machine.
Then see if you can delete this folder now.
Close the Windows Explorer window.
Click the Start button.
Click Run.
Type %windir% and click OK.
Look and delete the MCBIN folder (if exists).
Remove ActiveX components

Double Click My Computer
Double Click the C drive icon
Double Click the Windows folder (Note: This folder name may be WINNT for
users with Windows 2000 or XP upgraded from 2000)
Double Click the Downloaded Program Files folder
Delete any McAfee ActiveX components (examples: McAfee.com Operating system
class, McAfee Installer Class, McAfee TYP class, McAfee Tree class, download
group manager.)
Note: Browse the folder and if you see a component that you are unsure of
what program it belongs to like long random names with numbers and letters,
double click on it and look under the code base. If it's from
Download.McAfee.com, then delete it.

Empty the recycle bin and restart the machine.
