Post subject: ready to changie my anti-virus....resouce hogs
Archived from groups: alt>comp>virus (more info?)

Ive been a huge fan of Trend Pc-cillin thru the years as to me its always
had an easy interface and great at updating itself not to mention I think
it has done a pretty good job of protection for our home pc network,
HOWEVER...it has become such a damm memory hog that quite often it will slow
down
stations to a snails pace and when I check task manager, its always one of
Trends programs services that is the culprit and I have to shut the damm
thing down to get going again. Each station already has 1.5 to 2 GB of
memory and if thats not enough to quench its appetite for resource, then its
time to look elsewhere.

So im doing some reseach on the matter looking at both free and comercial
versions of virus detection software also possibly combined with firewall
and spyware detection. Currently I use Spyware Doctor which does a great job
too on top of Trends spyware blocker. The Doctor has found several
instances where I dont think Trends service has ever found even one case,
even before I installed Spyware Doctor.

Would like some input from the folks around here not on which antivirus
program suite you thinks best overal but primarily which program you have
found to NOT be such a resource hog. Would I be better off installing a
suite or separate programs for virus protection, firewall, spyware?

Thanks
The Professor and Maryann
(and all these years you thought I was hooked up with Ginger didn't you!)

On 1/20/2008 10:06 AM, Rockybooger, after much thought, came up with
this jewel:

NOD32 version 2.7 is very light. I haven't tried their latest version.
AntiVir classic is what I am using now-seems very light also. I have
found that most suites are hogs. You would be better off "rolling your
own" using the usual suspects
(Spybot/SAS/AdAware/Comodo/SpywareBlaster/AntiVir). I have links to
these and others on my pages (see below).
