In recent months, McAfee has added a pop up that delays booting until
it has been on the screen for several seconds. Since this pop-up
contains no infromation that I don't already have, it is vary
annoying. Also, McAfee did not ask my permission to insert this pop-up,
and their tech people tell me that even though they have received
several complaints, that nothing can be done about it.
How can I get rid of this unwanted and rude intrusion?

Vote with your wallet. Don't use McAfee products. There are plenty of
free applications that work as well if not better.

Sounds more like a splash screen, rather than a pop-up. Unless the
software has an option to control whether it displays or not, you have no
control over it. If it is a splash screen, it does not delay the boot-up
process -- the 'several seconds' is the time it takes McAfee to load up
anyway -- so why worry?

Having used McAfee AV since the mid 80's ---

I disagree. McAfee is as problematic as any AV app. on the market. It's
definitely not worse and it rate on finds is above average.

i think you mean the late 80's... i doubt much earlier than '88...

while mcafee may not be a bad choice, necessarily, it's not hard to
imagine some folks being happier with something else... (and it's gotten
a lot bigger since the days of scan and clean)

Sounds like the splash screen to me. You can disable it but I would need to
know what version of McAfee you are running and your operating system.

Kurt:

You are wise and correct. Circa '88 is about correct, wiped the Jerusalem.B
from a Netware v2.1 network.
Stuck with McAfee ever since. Albeit I did play with CPAV before Central Point
was taken over by P. Norton and dissolved. Remember MSAV is was an OEM version
of CPAV.

I think one will fine McAfee v7 Home Edition and v7 Enterprise will be lighter
than its predecessors. For example, thee is no longer the URL and IP block
capabilities.
