I am running Norton internet security software and so far my computer has
not been infected,
however I am always getting intrusion alerts.

I t was only a year ago all you had to do is not open email with a
suspicious attachment.
What has happened between now & then.

1) Islamic terrorist bent on making computer life miserable for Americans

2) Profit motive.

3) Bored unemployed computer professionals.

Whats your take on the change over the last year?

Ah, Information. A good, too valuable these days, to give it away, just
so, at no cost.

I have Sygate free firewall, and there is a company out west scanning my
ports (unsucessfully I hope). Is this what you are talking about, because it
is very annoying. Sygate backtraces it to a company called Qwest ( I think
in Colorado)...I have half a mind to start a harrassing E-mail campaign Smile

Qwest is an ISP and has user/customers with machines on their network
just like you're using an ISP with your machine on a network. Some users
on the Qwest network may have machines with self populating worms trying
to reach out and infect other machines on the Internet.

You should just be happy you have Sygate on the machine blocking the
scans and attacks and forget about it. I dare say that if you sent an
email to Qwest they may send one back to you about your harassment. Wink
