It wouldn't hurt to tell us what OS you are running on her machine.
You need to scan from SafeMode. see:
http://tinyurl.com/aacos or
http://tinyurl.com/6ju4bx [short version] That way you won't have dozens of
applications on when you scan and you can pick just one AV
[antivirus/antimalware] application to scan with. It will speed up greatly.
Make all the difference.
If you know how, do what Gabriela suggested. I doubt that you do. If
scanning in safe mode doesn't do it, see a good technician. [ I also heard
of the Trinity Rescue CD, but I personally haven't used it, I think there's
a pretty big learning curve to Trinity] . Lipman's Multi AV is another
alternative similar, can be run in Safe Mode. Read the other posts, you will
find it in many of them.
