Running XP Home Edition SP2 I tried to uninstall McAfee with Revo. It did not take out all of the files. I downloaded the MCPR Uninstaller tool from mcafee.com. Ran it per instructions When I rebooted the following message came up: Updater run-time error ‘-2147024770(800700e)’: Automation error The specified module could not be found. You doing a Restore "May" work, but I don't think it will. I had a similar case with Avast. It would not completely uninstall, and would not let me load over itself. In other words, my PC locked up on Avast.......couldn't go forward or backward. Solution? Reformat. It probably would be a registry entry that would keep you from going back or going forward. If you feel comfortable with doing so, run regedit and remove all references to McAfee. Reboot into safe mode, in case you missed some references, and delete all McAfee folders. Also run a registry cleaner to remove invalid registry references you may have missed. Or get Your Uninstaller, which does a pretty good job of cleaning out traces of uninstalled programs. You will probably have to reboot and use YU twice, since it can't always unlock and delete files that Windows thinks are still needed.
