After my AVG updated itself to v. 7.300, it stops all further updates. I
just get a message "Internet Connection has failed". It also stops all
incoming e-mails.

Anaything I can do? AVG does not support free AVG.

Are there any other simple, good, free virus checkers?

Hmmm I just updated to 7.300 and everything is fine. Are you sure your
problems are related to AVG?

Just fixed it: I deactivated the Win XP SP2 firewall. Reactivated my old
Zonealarm. All is well.

Why?? Don't have a clue. There must be some subterranean interaction between
Zonealarm and the Win firewall and AVG.

One of the problems with the Microsoft Firewall is that anytime you make a
change to your network, the firewall ceases to function properly and access to
the Internet is cut off. A simple reboot seems to correct the problem, but it
is best to disable it and remove the problems that it creates. With SP2, you
will also have to disable the Security Center, as this pain-in-the-ass window
will keep popping up when the Windows Firewall is disabled.

Did you tell Win Firewall to allow AVG internet access???

Not if you have another firewall, like ZA, running.... Security Center runs
fine and alerts me if ZA stops functioning....

I had a similar problem a couple weeks ago. All 3 of my pcs would not
automatically update. I had to manually download the .bin file from
their website and point AVG updates to the local file. It was just
that update. Auto updates have been working fine since. Might wanna
try that.

No problem with my emails, though.

Seems it would just be easier to change AV software! I've had no trouble
whatsoever since dumping AVG, rather amuses me to keep seeing these AVG
messages popping up now!!

Ahh, continue.. the rest of us are just getting on with other stuff while
Avast! or something else happily protects and updates in the background....
My sympaties to the remaining AVG die hard supporters...
