Archived from groups: alt>comp>anti-virus (more info?)

I've just noticed a file has been created (this morning) in the root
directory of my C: drive, called:

c:\~

with no file extension. The file is around 300k, and when viewed in a hex
editor seems to contain some address book details - so seems a bit
suspicious.

I've deleted the file, run NAV2004, Adware6, and SpyBot S&D (all updated
versions) but they find nothing.

Does anybody know where this file might have come from?

Sadly searching on "c:\~" is not very helpful

(Using W98SE)

Thanks

Chris

It's a wayward copy of your address book left there because
of a glitch in a Microsoft patch. Just delete it.

....they may never fix this one.

It's a well known bug in Outhouse Express. It's a copy of the WAB. To
discover more, google (groups) for 'tilde on desktop' (although it can
show up other places too .. however the desktop one tends to get
noticed).

Thanks very much for the responses. As suggested it does indeed appear to
just be a backup of the address book. That's a relief!

Thanks
