Disable Resident Shield: In Control Panel, un-check all boxes on
Resident Shield Properties tab. In Control Panel Resident Shield
should now say "Resident Shield is loaded and not fully functional."
Disable e-mail scanning: For each installed plugin, click "Configure",
then un-check boxes for "Check incoming mail" and "Check outgoing
mail." Or try clicking "Disable Plugin", but I've found that to not
always be available or to work.
It may also be a good idea to disable/cancel all scheduled automatic
updates and tests: In Control Center go to "Scheduler", "Scheduled
Tasks."
If you want to disable boot scan: In Autoexec.bat un-check box (with
msconfig) next to "C:\PROGRA~1\GRISOFT\AVGFRE~1\BOOTUP.EXE". To stop
AVG loading at start up un-check AVG entries in msconfig Startup tab.
You should now be able to install Avast with no potential conflicts
with AVG.
I normally run AVG with all the above, except e-mail scanning,
disabled, using it only as an on-demand scanner, which is all I have
use for really. HTH.
