Have Norton Antivirus 2003 Pro on Win 98 se with Outlook express 6.00.

Every time Norton starts it starts the dialer window.

Have auto update and auto notify disabled.

What am I missing to stop the dialer on start up?

Thanks for any info

Gary

Try going into Internet Explorer.

Tools, Internet Options
Connections tab.
tick the box "Never dial a connection"

This shouldn't have any side effects but will stop some programs (eg
mail) from being able to dial up to the internet to perform actions.

NAV might be doing a DNS check of the local machine or something
similar. I've seen other programs do similar things.

Found what appears to solve the problem. Before the fix, every time Norton
started ( either on start up or by double clicking the desktop icon) it
would start the dialer.

FIX:

Go to Internet Explorer
Click Tools and Internet Options
Click the Advanced tab
Under Security, Clear the "Check for server certificate revocation (requires
restart)
and "Check for Publisher's certificate revocation" check boxes

My internet explorer had the server cert. checked. Clearing this removed
the problem. By the way I found this in Norton's knowledge base.

Thanks for the effort. Hope this helps some one else.
