My AV software (Sophos) has detected Spybot-B on my machine.
I've read that this is a virus that's spread by Kazzaa which I have running
in the background.

I'm I liable to get infected by it just because Kazaa was up and running?

And to answer your question, probably.

No, Art........Kazaa is a P2P stand alone program.........and no one in
their right mind should use it.....it is full of viruses and spyware!!

And I will never, ever understand your 'hatred' for IE....if it is
patched and the security is appropriately high......then it is no worse
than anything else. But I am tilting at windmills here......grin.

Saw some more lies on CNN tonight about our 'favourite subject'. Seems
you Government is rabid on the subject.

Best....Heather

Sorry my eastern cousin, but Kazaa is not full of viruses. Spyware
yes, but a quick google for Kazaa lite takes care of that little
problem Smile
Been using it for a while now, no viruses downloaded, and none
installed.
It's very easy to see which files are probably viruses when using
Kazaa/Kazaa lite.

Hi Tim......

Durn.......a Westerner!! Kazaa downloads are often viruses, my dear
darling funnyface!! And Kazaa Lite is by an entirely different company
and does NOT contain spyware........yet. In fact, Kazaa is threatening
to sue Kazaa Lite.....good luck.

If I were to ever use Kazaa......and that will be a frosty friday in
July......I would virus check every mp3 or exe. Is it possible to
change the extension......having a thought or two here. (G)

XX Heather (and I use WinMX......much better for songs......and no
spyware or viruses, period)

You seem to suffering some delusions Wink
Kazaa and Kazaa lite are one and the same. The only difference is some
enterprising soul has removed the spyware components.

I'd like to see your statistics that show Kazaa downloads are often
viruses. I've seen what I assume are viruses when searching for a
particular file (based on file sizes) but I say there are less viruses
than legitimate files. Certainly I've never felt the need to download
a 50 kb mp3 and click on it expect it to be a "real" mp3. Safe hex
goes a long way in the world of p2p.

Really? I hadn't heard that, and a quick google search showed that
Kazaa, aka Sharman Networks, was on the receiving end of lawsuits.

a virus is a program, it has to be executed in order to do anything...
i've not heard of kazaa automagically executing things you download so
i would tend to suspect that you aren't liable to get infected just
because kazaa was up and running...
