AVG 7.5 Question Please

When using AVG 7.5 it is scanning files (Word, Excel, etc.) every time I
open them which is slowing down an already very slow computer. There must
be a setting to tell AVG not to do this but I can't find it. I'm sure when
it does the scheduled full system scan at night this is enough to protect
me. Can anyone tell me how to cancel this one particular feature?

You can exclude file types from the resident shield scan with the paid
version, but not the free one.
You could turn off the resident shield temporarily if you think it would
save you enough time to be worth the effort.
