Here's what I got with the debug switch (with the script line that precedes
each message):
Both startservice errors follow the script line "$WMICheck = ConfirmWMI()"
and the last message follows "KillProcesses()".

From: "Tom Del Rosso" <td_01.DeleteThis@att.net.invalid>
|
| You're the author? Well then many thanks for making this available.
You're welcome !
|
| Which tool? The McAfee clean tool. Sorry, but I thought that was clear
| from the names of the batch files.
My specialty tools; WinFixerFix, SmithFraud and Haxdoor are all based upon the Clean Tool.
| The DAT files downloaded with no error. Upon booting in
| safe-mode-with-command-prompt and running clean.bat, all it does is emit one
| beep, then hangs in a blank command window. However DOSclean.bat works,
| therefor SCAN.EXE works, and apparently KiXtart doesn't work.
|
| I'm basically reiterating. Sorry, but I don't know what details I'm leaving
| out. (I get that a lot because I try to avoid verbose questions - not
| because I can't write a complete paragraph.) If I start the interpreter in
| debug mode maybe there would be something else to observe. If this is not a
| known problem then I'll just go back and try that.
|
| I could add that clean.kix is headlined "01-28-2006 // v3.77" but it was
| just downloaded a few weeks ago.
|
That's old !
Where did you downkoad the McAfee Clean Tool ?
The latest version is; 10-10-2006 // v3.98
The *ONLY* place to download my tools is at; http://IK-CS.Com or more spdcifically;
http://ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/clean.exe
Did you know about my Multi AV Scanning Tool ?
The clean tool is just the McAfee Command Line Scanner. The Multi AV Scanning tool adds;
Sophos, Trend Micro (My Sysclean Frent End standalone tool) and Kaspersky into one tool with
a menu driven front-end.
Download MULTI_AV.EXE from the URL --
http://www.ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/Multi_AV.exe
To use this utility, perform the following...
Execute; Multi_AV.exe { Note: You must use the default folder C:\AV-CLS }
Choose; Unzip
Choose; Close
Execute; C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT
{ or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS }
NOTE: You may have to disable your software FireWall or allow WGET.EXE to go through your
FireWall to allow it to download the needed AV vendor related files.
C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT -- { or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS}
This will bring up the initial menu of choices and should be executed in Normal Mode.
This way all the components can be downloaded from each AV vendor's web site.
The choices are; Sophos, Trend, McAfee, Kaspersky, Exit this menu and Reboot the PC.
You can choose to go to each menu item and just download the needed files or you can
download the files and perform a scan in Normal Mode. Once you have downloaded the files
needed for each scanner you want to use, you should reboot the PC into Safe Mode [F8 key
during boot] and re-run the menu again and choose which scanner you want to run in Safe
Mode. It is suggested to run the scanners in both Safe Mode and Normal Mode.
When the menu is displayed hitting 'H' or 'h' will bring up a more comprehensive PDF help
file. http://www.ik-cs.com/multi-av.htm
Additional Instructions:
http://pcdid.com/Multi_AV.htm
* * * Please report back your results * * *

I googled for 'mcafee clean.bat download' and looked for the url with the 2
sets of initials that I can never remember separated by a dash.

Yeah, ik-cs.com. That's the one.
I don't know how I ended up with the old one. I downloaded it a few weeks
ago, and I thought I used the same copy.
But I just got the latest and it did the same thing, although not running in
safe mode.
Now I'll try another LAN by remote (again running in normal mode).
Ok, the PCs on the other LAN work fine. The LAN where the script doesn't
work is nearly identical except it has a Sonicwall firewall, but there is no
network access during the scan, right? Could it be a hardware issue? I can
try a PC of the same model somewhere else.
I tried it again while regmon and filemon were running. I can email you the
logs from that if you want. There are some 'file not found' errors but that
might be normal for kixtart.
I will try it again now with clean.bat modified with /d on the kix32 line
and the exit removed.
Do you have any suggestions for checking this?
