Post subject: I have applied 1,328 Microsoft patches and they keep coming! Archived from groups: alt>comp>anti-virus (more info?)
All in the last 10 days! Will Microsoft ever get it right? Why don't they
just release a new Windows version instead of doing all this patching. I
haven't got time for it!

Microsoft's software has been a patchwork quilt since
the beginning, they just recently started to "let go" of
the old DOS code. A "throw it all away and start from
scratch" approach is desperately needed and I doubt
that commercial pressures will allow Microsoft to make
the grade with regard to software security.
If they divided their efforts into two factions, one to
keep rolling out <cough> competitive software, and
another to work on a "from the ground up" security
minded OS software package, then it just might be
possible.
