I just upgraded from 4.5.1 to enterprise 7.1 and the system is consistently
comeing up with on-access scan disabled. ie: there is a red X over the
shield. Yes, there is a check [x] that is supposed to enable it when the
system boots. This system has XP home and I upgraded to SP2 at the same
time as 7.1 went in.

Other systems, win2k and xp pro do not have this problem. I tried
uninstalling and reinstalling and same problem. No indication of any virus.

Did you search for "mcafee" and "network associates" in the Registry and removing their
keys after removing v4.5.1 and then installing VirusScan v7.1 ?

If not, I suggest removing v7.1, then reboot. Then search for "network associates" and
"mcafee" in the Registry and removing artifacts. Then install VirusScan v71.
