With mail-in and upgrade rebates, I could get either Zone Alarm suite or the
McAfee suite free.

I used to have the Zone Alarm Firewall free edition. It slowed the computer
down drastically.

Which suite is better for virus and firewall protection, without slowing the
computer down?

Thanks in advance.

My humble opinion is neither

set your self up with Zonealarm or sysgate free firewall
Micrsoft Antispyware
and AVG or Avast.

that setup, I think is better than both symantic and mcafee suites
and might as well pile on spybot and adaware

I've never found AVG to slow a system much either, what gets me about the
original post is that ZoneAlarm is slowing down the system..
The only thing I can think of is ZA is blocking spyware and others from
reaching the net and that is contributing in the slow down.

I've been a user of ZoneAlarm for years and have never seen a slowdown
happen on a clean system..

As far as Vet, I don't use an antivirus, I do run a stand alone tool (or
three),
once in awhile but they always come up clean for me, (three + years now)
