Windows XP has a search applet that can list every file created
and modified in the last 24 hours.
Access it by pressing the windows key and the 'f' key.

Before installing new software write down the time you started the setup.exe.

Before shutting down your computer do the following:

1) dump your internet explorer cache,

2) delete unwanted cookies, empty the recycle bin

3) run search and look for all files created and modified in the last 24 hours.

4) Scan suspicious files with your virus scanner. Take appropriate action.

5) Pay attention to everything. Google things you don't understand. After a
week or so of doing this you will begin to see a pattern and suspicious files
will stick out like a sore thumb.

Only YOU can protect your computer!

....and when you execute a program on the local machine, those stamps
(and others) can be altered to avoid being listed.

Sorry but the OS does the time stamp - not the exe.
