Hi everyone. I currently use Windows XP Home edition, and have noticed
something neet in my running processes. Two running processes: smss.exe and
winlogon.exe; which don't seem too odd, except that the description given
for them is Windows NT Session Manager and Windows NT Logon Application,
respectively. They're not listening on any ports, but why on earth would
they have this discription name. Was some programmer at Microsoft just
being lazy and reused some of the same code from Win NT but just didn't
bother changing the description file? Oh, by the way, both of these files
reside in Windows\system32.

If it don't work, hit it.
If it still doesn't work, kick it.
If it works after hitting it and kicking it, then it doesn't matter if
hitting it or kicking it helped, what's important is that it works. >> Stay informed about: Windows NT? |

To further elaborate, Windows 2000 is NT 5.0 and XP is NT 5.1.

are you under the misconception that services = servers?
why should they listen on any ports? that's not their job...

i don't see anything wrong with the descriptions you quoted... what
exactly is it about them that you think deserves questioning?
