Archived from groups: alt>comp>anti-virus, others (more info?)

I've been using F-Prot for Windows on Win98, NT4, Win2k and XP systems for
a number of years with almost no problems.

I had problems trying to update F-Prot for Windows 3.15b the other day on
a Win98SE system so I installed the latest version 3.16.

I've had nothing but problems with this version and the updated version
3.16a that just came out is no better.

BSODs when it scans an EICAR file or any file it lists as suspect. Lots of
false positives, for example MS Excel Workbook Repair Macro - Cleaner.xla.

I've been able to run Ad-Aware (Personal SE and previous versions) and
Pest Patrol while F-Prot RealTime Protector is running in the background.
Now they wont load or run very slowly and BSOD! It also has problems with
InCtrl4.

I've seen a message that 3.16 has a problem with Opera browser.

What's happening? Too many new "features"?

I'm going back to 3.15 for now.

Never get it when it is new. Wait till the bugs get straightened out:)

No change from .15b as far as I can tell.

Agreed! Normally that's what I do, in fact that's what I was doing except
3.15b stopped updating properly. I was getting an error message after
downloading the update files using the automatic updater.

Also, it was taking forever to run Update.

Frisk has a message on their website about 3.16 running slow for some
people and announcing 3.16a.

I've been installing over the previous versions for over a year now
without any problems. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling both version
including cleaning out the Registry before installation.

I might try 3.15b again but in the mean time I bought and installed NOD32.

I am trying .16a at the moment.

RealTime protect seems a little slower . . . it's hard to tell, what with the
heat from all this cooking pushing the Prescott circuitry Wink

My experience with the eicar test files (.com and .zip) and F-Prot 3.16a
display no problems whatsoever, speedwise or with the BSOD.

Seems like others are having these problems, tho. Maybe Njall is blessing
me.

F-Prot 3.16a is every bit as effective as NOD32 on my computer. Both are
excellent, fast AV programs.

I'm in Win2K (not Win98 as Chas is), if that matters.
