Running AVG 7 Free - Scheduled updates always happen at 8.11 am - now I
have broadband I want to shift this. I have seen some tabs where it
says do a general check for updates e.g. "somewhere between 09:00 and
09:59" and the same for every hour of the day. I know the updates come
down at 8:11 cos I usually see them at that exact time, but I can't see
any of the options where to set this. Can someone please put me out of
my misery?

AVG Control Center
Scheduler button
Scheduled tasks
Highlight the "update plan in basic mode" schedule.
Click the "edit schedule" button
Set the day and time frame.
Ok
Close

Ah right - I saw the time range in the "scheduled tasks" screen, but my
08:11 was just off to the edge of the screen - visible when I clicked
the horizontal scroll bar

Many thanks - I don't know why I didn't think of looking at that option
the first time.

New here.
I have Macafee on my 5 year old Dell.
Its very resource drawing and slows my
computer down when Enabled.
Is there a better free programme i can install and still
be safe ?
I dont know the version you talk of here.
Please advise.
Best regards

It's free. Get it and try it. Uninstall if you don't like it. Be sure to
disable your other anti-virus (stop it's components from loading at startup)
while using AVG or any other product, so you don't get conflicts.

I barely know AVG is there.
It does take longer to scan than AVG 6 did, unless I change the priority
in XP's Task Manager. Giving it higher priority speeds up the scanning but
slows down my computer. It's a trade off. So, I set a high priority, and have it scan
when I'm not using the computer... like when eating supper, watching a movie, etc.
If scanning when I want to use the computer I leave the priority at normal and
it has negligible effect on other apps., but takes longer.
