I bought my wife a new hp laptop that came with Norton Internet Security
2006 installed. It was time limited software so I decided to install Norton
System Works 2006 which is cheaper than keeping the pre-installed software
with the rebates offered. I swear that I followed the installation
instructions exactly but.... Nothing was said about deleting previous
versions of Norton, etc so I plunged ahead.
After the installation, I ran live update on Norton System Works to update
the virus detection files and everything appeared to work fine.
A week or so later I tried to run live update to update the antiviral files
on Norton System Works and it refused to update. It told me (I don't
remember the exact words) that my subscription had expired. Seemed a bit
strange since I thought my subscription to Norton System Works was for a
year.
I went to the Norton web page and tried to get assistance from using "chat"
help system. It was a bit frustrating. I told the person that I had the full
sequence of the pre-installed software and the new installation. The best
response I got was that the Norton Internet Security anti virus updates
would not run on Norton System Works which was beside the point. I
specifically said I wanted my already paid for Norton System Works to
operate and I did not want Norton Internet updated.
I'm not sufficiently comfortable just starting over and deleting all of the
Norton software and doing a "re-installation" of Norton System Works without
some advice that it's won't screw up the whole mess and I will be left with
no antivirus software at all.
Suggestions will be appreciated and if possible. Is there a phone number
that can get me a real person on the phone at Norton that can tell me the
steps involved?
thanks,
Harry
