Thank you for any help received. I have WinXP SP2 with native firewall
disabled.

I installed Sygate Personal Firewall a couple of weeks ago and have somehow
blocked Windows Update. When attempting to have it scan the computer, it
comes back and tells me "Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot
display the requested page.", with an error code of Error number:
0x80072EE2.

References show it is probably the firewall blocking access and I have
confirmed that by allowing all traffic through. I cannot find any blocked
applications in Sygate's list that indicate Windows Update is being blocked.

Can anyone give me a clue as to how to enable Windows Update with any
advanced rules or something like that? So far Sygate has not responded to
any written requests.

Sygate doesn't provide a logfile where you can check what it has
blocked? Clear it, try a Windows Update, and check the logfile.

Try setting up an advanced rule to allow incoming TCP connections from
the appropriate IP address(es) for Windows Update from port 443 to your
system, any port.

After messing with the settings in Sygate for a few hours I decided to ditch
it and go back to Kerio 2.15 despite all the noise some people were making
about its vulnerabilities. I must be not as advanced as Sygate needs me to
be. Thanks to those who wrote back.
