I'm hearing reports of folks getting 279 and up emails containing the Swen
virus in one day.

Hi,

During one night (around 8 hours) I got it almost 400 times - mailbox
full.

It is obviously being spammed massively to help its procreation. I
activated a new email address yesterday evening, sent one, repeat ONE
single posting to one single newsgroup - minutes after that, the horror
started with the new address. The only difference: About one hit every
three minutes or so instead of three hits per minute.

This, along with the fact that (AFAIK) no other email critter ever
before spread that fast, makes it clear to me that this is not just
normal malware spread. Sad

Fortunately my ISP has since updated its virus-scanners files, so I
"only" get the 14K fake M$ email without the attachment. At least my
mailbox is no longer in danger of overflow.

Me too, so I bought a virus filter from my internet provider, so that my
hard disk does not get full. It costs 12 euros in year. Perhaps this
virus was written by virus protection firms... Smile

In the future, I'm sure that every e-mail provider has automatic virus
filtering built-in. Also spam filter. I can't imagine how much internet
bandwith this virus has taken.

Just remove the NOSPAM from your address, and you'll be SWAMPED. Better
be glad that you protected yourself in advacne, even without knowing
that something like swen would come along.
