Archived from groups: alt>comp>virus (more info?)

My daughter just bought a Gateway laptop with McAfee Security Center
installed. When it boots up, a McAfee Privacy Service box comes up,
showing "administrator" and asks for a password. Once booted up, I can
disable this service, but it re-enables itself on the next bootup. This
is very annoying. Is there some way to turn this option off?

Also, McAfee sports a cookie blocker, requiring either accepting or
blocking cookies on every website. Once again, ther's no way to turn off
this feature, is there?

While McAfee is a halfway decent product, they've dumbed it down so that
the user has little to say about how it's set up.

I'm tempted to remove it and install Eset's NOD32. However, I've heard
that it's difficult to remove all traces of McAfee. I speak from a similar
experience with Norton. (I still have to keep "S32evnt1.dll" on the hard
drive to keep certain programs working).

Thanks!
Scott
