Post subject: Ad-Aware SE problem...
Archived from groups: alt>comp>anti-virus (more info?)

The new Ad-Aware program seems to have killed my Mozilla setup. I believe
the file mozz.dll has been deleted and reinstalling Mozilla doesn't fix it.
The problem started happening after I ran the new Ad-Aware for the first
time and did my usual "delete everything that looks suspicious". Can
someone tell me how to configure Ad-Aware SE so it doesn't do this again?

If you want to restore a quarantined entry, "Open quarantine list" and
restore... Next time Ad-Aware finds it, select and check (Obj.) the
item, right click, select the "Add selected to Ignore list" option.

There should be a 'backup' file in Adaware so that you can restore
that file, or all of the ones you choose to have AdAware delete.
You can just put that file on the 'Ignore' list and you won't be
bothered with it again.

It's rather quikier than that actually.

I'm running the exact same versions of Mozilla 1.7.2 on a W98se PC, and an
ZP. Installed using the same installer, each contains MOZZ.DLL, both files
appear identical after examination with an hex editor, but the new AdAware
alerts only on the W98se machine. Work that one out!

I'm just telling AdAware to ignore it.

False alerts seem to be common at present. Spybot certainly isn't free of
them, and neither is Antivir, and I've proved, to my own satisfaction at
least, that the things upon which they are alerting here are quite
harmless, sometimes essential.

It just proves, yet again, that it's unsafe to plunge ahead and accept any
alert without some kind of second opinion, or at the least some careful
thought.

Finally, the supposed detection of ADS in this new AdAware seems to be
completely ineffective. I've tested that also, and compared it with Tds-3.
No competition.

Cheers,

Roy
