Yes!
Dropping to dos via the startup MS-Dos prompt,
or floppy dos sytem disk, with an autoexec.bat and config.sys on it,
along with all files listed in both files, on the floppy, so that the CDROM
can be accessed thru floppy dos mode.
If you get error notice, try ignoring, and keep going.
PLEASE NOTE: this may not be perfect, but it's a start.

I do this all the time. No need to use a CD-RW, though, just burn
your F-Prot folder to a CD-R as a closed session. When you update the
definition files or the main program just burn another session.
(Leave the CD open but close each session.) I always create a date
folder on the CD and copy the F-Prot folder to that. A 700 MB disc
will hold quite a few sessions. I have several PCs that I have to
check occassionally and this method works on every one. Boot to pure
DOS to run it, though, not a DOS window.

Confusious asks....How is your CD accessed via a CDROM in pure dos?

We're talking 95/98/SE here, I hope. I usually just boot to DOS when
the operating system starts to load (by pressing F8 or holding the
Ctrl key down (although I've never found a machine that would show the
startup menu when holding the Ctrl key down)), or use the Emergency
Boot Disk. If you use the Emergency Boot Disk you'll have to have the
BIOS boot order set to check the 'A:' drive first. After the OS
loads, run F-Prot by either typing in the full path and filename or
changing to the drive\directory on the CD where the latest copy of
f-prot.exe is located.

It is already there in the config.sys file supplied

Line (6) in CONFIG.SYS....below
Not my code....Got to thinking, and wondered how the Win98 Startup
disk did it....and looked in their bat/sys files...You just gotta know how
to use the ole' nogging....Pretty good for an ole' Octogenarian...
