Problem with Norton Internet Security

I have a customer with a near new laptop who I got all set up with a
wireless router a couple of weeks ago. The laptop has XP, SP2. He also
has a desktop computer running Windows 98. He has DSL. The desktop is
plugged directly into the router and the laptop is wireless. In the NIS
firewall settings I allowed the network range 192.168.1.1 to
192.168.1.254. Under Programs IE, FireFox, Outlook Express are all set to
automatic or "allow". The computers could swap files, and he was using
the desktop computer's printer to print from the laptop. Internet access
was working fine. He called this morning and everything had quit working
on the laptop. No internet access, couldn't print to the other computer.
I had him check his IP and it was 192.168.1.100, so obviously the router
was assigning an IP. He is not very computer savvy. He said that he
hadn't messed with any firewall settings... he wouldn't even know how to.
I had him turn off the firewall part of NIS and everything took off
working. I also led him through checking if the network range was still
programmed in and had him check if all his programs were listed and set
to automatic or allow. Everything was still set as they had been.
The desktop computer never had a problem... internet was OK.
So now he's running with the Norton firewall turned off and the Windows
firewall on. He lives a considerable distance away and I will have to go
and try to straighten the mess out. If it were mine, I'd dump NIS
altogether and install a seperate antivirus app and a seperate firewall.
But it "came with the computer and I have my year's subscription paid
up".
What do I look for?
Kinda off topic here I realize. What would be an appropriate group to
post this?

I,ve got exactly the same problem, can't access my e-mail via outlook
express or use firefox or IE, I can connect just can,t do anything. I can
however play my online games like city of heroes. To write this I,ve
disabled NIS for a short while I reckon symantec have screwed up somewhere
