McAfee Total Protection reverts to previous version

What is the general opinion on McAfee Total Protection 2010 reverting to the 2009 version?

I have one computer, XP Home that has had this happen 3 times now. On another, with Vista Premium it has happened once. And finally I have an XP Pro running computer with no problems. All these computers are on the same 3 computer license.

The problem occurs after an auto update is downloaded.

It seems to me it may have started after McAfee found a problem with their included backup program and Windows 7 and attempted to fix that problem.

Okay, I just thought that was the whole problem - havn't found a distinct solution for this; however the new update seems to eliminate it.

It seems McAfee has decided to redo the McAfee interface on computers as the programs auto update. You may find features you had gone or hidden, and some manual settings will have been lost. Do not assume they are all still enabled. You will need to manually install Quick Clean.

You will know if you have the new interface because McAfee has done away with version numbers. You just get what the decide until the end of your subscription.

Furthermore, the McAfee Backup applet apparently proved imcompatilbe with Windows 7 so McAfee is removing this feature as part of the updates. If you have existing backup files and don't have Windows 7 you will need to download a patch from McAfee.
