I bet It's too much enterprising to get my whole 48 GB HDD scanned just
for a newly downloaded executable.
Is there a free online scan service that allows scanning ONLYa
particular file or folder?

Panda ActiveScan does not scan only a file/folder, does it?

www.pcpitstop.com does, although I'm not sure how effective the scanner is

Make yourself a logical drive:
- Create C:\Quarantine.
- Share C:\Quarantine.
- Map a logical drive to \\YourComputer\Quarantine.
- Now you have a single folder that looks like a drive. Always drop
suspect files into the logical drive. Virus scan the logical drive
quickly, as desired.
