I've got an XP Pro machine that serves files on a small business network.
The machine runs the latest version of McAfee's Security Center. When I
enter the approved IP range in the personal firewall, it blocks Windows file
and print sharing anyway. The only way is to move the bar on the firewall
to the lowest setting, which is almost no protection. What must I do to get
the firewall to "honor" the IP range?

Oddly enough, when this computer was on a wired network, this problem did
not exist. It wasn't until the network went wireless that file sharing
stopped working. Anyone seen that before?

Thanks.

It is what it is. I am asking for help on the hand I have been dealt. This
is a software question, nothing more...

Thank you.

A business should be using a Server OS w/o a FireWall application. The FireWall should be
an appliance on the WAN/LAN interface. The problem is your configuration, not the software.
WinXP is not a server OS and using a workstation with workstation software is the wrong
approach.

That doesn't change the fact the setup you have is the wrong approach. You need to change
the setup not try to fix the consequences.

Not every business, especially a start-up, can afford servers and the
infrastructure to go along with it. I deal with small businesses in this
spot all the time. I quote them a price on the hardware and software they
need, and they blush. Here I am trying to help a small business that is
trying to sell specialty tee-shirts of some sort work out a problem with
file sharing. I'm just asking for help on this one specific issue. I agree
with you entirely, but it's a tough sell to a lot of small business owners.

I'm going to the McAfee forums with this. Thanks anyway.
