I have the following file located in the Temporary Interenet File folder
which is in my Documents and Settings folder. I cannot remove the file. I
cannot rename the file. I cannot format the disk. I cannot use Norton's
Wipe Info on the file. Anybody have any hints?

You can't format the disk? First, that's a last ditch effort that
hopefully you could avoid, but if you have to do it then you should be
able to do it with your system recovery disks that came with your PC (If
you use Win XP, don't know about the others). Second, have you tried
exploring the file properties (right click, properties). It's probably
marked read-only. Third, have you tried AdAware and Spybot? Fourth,
try scanning it in safe mode. And finally, if none of this works, try
submitting a sample to your favorite AV (and it would do me a favor if
you also submitted it to support.DeleteThis@sophos.com). If none of this works,
then hopefully someone else here has better ideas, or you may get stuck
having to format from your recovery disks. Good luck.

If it don't work, hit it.
If it still don't work, kick it.
If it works after that, than it doesn't matter if that helped, what's
important is it works.

Thanks for the hints re the strange file. I am using Win2000Pro.

I have been able to run scandisk in safe mode. I cannot format the disk
even in safe mode. When I right click on the file and then select
"Properties" nothing happens. The properties are not displayed.

The disk is an old 40 GB unit that I am giving away and I wanted to insure
that my files are not accessible.

Try running command line attrib -R [drive:][path][filename]. Then you
should be able to delete it. Of course it would be nice to know what
the file is, first, as it might not be something malicious and maybe
even important. Also, if you have another PC, you could try using a
bootdisk to remove this file, as it is either write-only or being
accessed by another process. Also, google process explorer. This will
let you know what processes are in use as well as any DLLs, OCXs, etc.,
that the process is using. Of course, then you'd have to go through
each process before you find the right one. The other option would be
to use you're taskmanager (while not connected to internet) and
systematically terminate one process after another until you can do
something to this file. Windows might crash a few times during this
process and would need to reboot, but you might get lucky and find
whatever process is calling on this file. Hope this helps. Good luck.
