I have also noted the lack of any indication of a possible *program* upgrade
availability ( I was a beta tester of ver7 of EZ-av and asked about that ).
The uinofficial response was that they are considering that but are strongly
divided about how to implement the 'feature'. Should EZ-av occasionally
check to see if there is a newer version of the program or just provide a
button where the user could explicitly check? If there is a new version,
should they ask the user whether they want to download it, download it and
install it on the fly etc... Their concern, I think, was that many novice
users (apparently they have a lot of those) may be confused by the process
and might in fact mess up their installation by blundering through the
process. I often notice a new *program* version by spotting something in
this newsgroup - no idea how those posters find out themselves. Perhaps they
periodically check the CA ftp site looking for a recent timestamp?
I mentioned in my beta responses that I would like (at least) a way to
explicitly check my program version versus the latest one available and I
would be quite happy to then follow a link to download a more up to date
version.
