I am buying a new system that has e-trust EZ antivirus installed. What I
would like to know is:

Would the firewall in XP be enough to run with this and if not would EZ be
compatible with my Norton Firewall?

Thanks

Annie

The firewall in Windows XP is a bare-bones, no-frills application. It will
block incoming threats and that's about it. I haven't heard of any problems
with EZ anti-virus and Norton, but Norton products seem to attract
incompatibility issues with just about everything.

I would suggest two products, both free of charge, that do an outstanding
job of protecting systems. Those are AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition and Zone
Alarm Free Edition, a top-rated firewall that provides superb protection.
Reviews of these products can be found at sites like www.pcworld.com and
www.pcmagazine.com.

If you upgrade to XP SP2, then you'll have a two-way FW that should
suffice. However, with that said, if you manage to get a nasty on your
computer that's trying to dial out, then guess what firewall it's gonna
try to defeat first.

If you're just using NPF, and not anything with NAV bundled in with it,
then I wouldn't forsee any incompatibility issues with EZ AV. I
personally, however, would go with Sygate or Zone Alarm for Firewall
(both are free, and they rock).
