Been using Computer Associates EZTrust Antivirus for few years and been
mostly pleased until the latest version.
I do not like automatic updating for many reasons, but think I am
pretty good about manually installing the updates on a timely basis. I
do this approximately monthly, but the point is....I do not FORGET. I
do it when I feel the need, but constantly check my DAT file status and
always know the date of my file.
In previous versions, there was a choice of having the program download
automatically, or remind you that it was "time", or neither. But at no
point did the Icon in the taskbar change into one with a yellow
exclamation mark or a red cross to tell you that your dat files were
outdated according to.....according to WHO?
Who decided for me that I need to do this once a week or whatever short
span of time has unfolded between now and last weekend when I installed
version 7.06?
Is there any way to stop the Icon from changing (other than removing
the Icon from the system tray and thereby losing the re-assurance that
the virus engine is running properly)? Or does anyone know if I can
hack the registry and change the length of time after which the Icon
mutates?
Please don't lecture me on how its important to update weekly or daily
even. I'm not changing when I update because of this ICON. I will
either change the Icon or learn to ignore it. So this is only about how
to modify the program and not about whether the program is performing a
useful function. I still believe the feature stinks.
Thank you for any suggestions.
