Mcafee 8 and its tendency to dial out - One annoying problem recently was McAfee 8 on my mother's computer, and finding it kept popping up a dial-out box, while she was in the middle of a game. Although you'd think it was possible to stop this by changing settings, trust me, it..

mcafee makes dial-up popup when not connected - I've just bought and installed Mcafee (what a damn stupid name that is, I can never remember if it is mcafee, or macafee or macaffee or mcaffee, why didn't they call their company on my mother's computer, and it all seemed fine. I was certain..

McAfee Updates - McAfe hasn't had an update since July 2nd. Makes me wonder if perhaps I should switch to another product with more timely updates.

McAfee updates - Hi An earlier post about the update process with McAfee has made me realise I may be working under false Whether I assumed it or was told/read it somewhere I can't recall, but for ages I've worked on the basis that when I download

mcafee updates - antivirus has been reliable for me for years, but it is So today, I bought McAfee 8.0 today, because it was cheaper. It has installed okay, but when I go to update to get the latest antivirus etc, a window comes up..

Does anyone have experience in dealing with laptops out in the field
who ONLY have dial-up yet must have the latest dat files for McAfee??
Would it be better to let McAfee keep these updated by triggering the
update each time dial-up is initiated or is the only way to do this is
to mail out CD's on a regular bases with the updated dat files??

The dat files are extremely large and as you can guess it seems very
close to impossible to keep these updated with such slow connections.

Does McAfee have a technique to keep these type of machines updated?

Thank you for any information that can be provided

If the McAfee AV software is kept up-to-date then the McAfee application will use
incremental updates. If the PC is out-of-date by a relatively large margin the the AV
application will have to use the full ZIP file.

What I typically do is this:

Determine what AV the customer is using; if mcafee/norton, download the
latest defs, put them on cd-r and memory stick. cd-r for those machines
that are nitpicky, memory stick for the rest.

Dialup sucks for this. You should try windows updates over dialup. Smile
