Can anyone help me with this virus please

AVG keeps telling me I have this virus and to run AVG, when I run AVG it
tells me there are no viruses, but later, a box will appear telling me I
have the David H. Lipman virus, can anyone tell me what
it is and how I get rid of it please? It keeps responding to all my posts
with the same canned message over and over and over....And I used to think
real people responded in this group.

Thanks for help

I don't see the criticism. Seems like "helpful" advice to me. I've used
similar methods in removing stubborn malware from other's systems. It works.

Just because David has created a "form letter" doesn't devalue the
advice. And since the same effen questions appear here, over and over, a
standard reply is hardly inappropriate.

If the process is bogus, then let's hear why.

What? I don't hear anything...

Yes, it is and it does, keep reading

But damn irritating when it is the same one posted in each thread as a
personal reply to someone over and over and over. Makes the original
poster feel like they are being blown off ...especially since, as good as
the advice is, it may not handle the situation the poster has...and the
poster needing help isn't going to be happy that they felt that only 2
seconds was spent by somebody to consider what they had to say. Regardless
of the form letter, the way it is perceived to treat the person needing
help as impersonal....something that they can get by calling into
technical support anywhere. Being that impersonal is a shabby way to
treat someone. BTW: There is nothing more annoying than be tossed a form
letter that may have been seen by you many times before knowing that it
won't help you, but now you've got to explain your problem again in hopes
of getting a real person who might think a little about the problem and
make some suggestions not previously thought of.

> If the process is bogus, then let's hear why.

Nobody said the process is bogus.

BTW: Here is my suggestion....The Form Letter is a good one. Why not
post it as its own topic aimed at people trying to clean out viruses about
every 5 or 10 posts where everyone can see it, instead of throwing it at
somebody for every single thread.

And you don't think you're being just a bit overly sensitive here? I
mean if someone were *paying* David for his service, I would agree
that this type of reply would be perceived as less than satisfactory;
maybe even rude. But, this is a Usenet NG. It's not a helpdesk for
paid license holders of XYZ Anti-Virus. I didn't realize that free
advice had to be given in a particular manner so as not to "offend"
the requestor's sensibilities. Since when have we become so needy that
we require a hug with the free advice that gets doled out? BTW, I am a
paid licenseholder of numerous software. And the response I often get
when I contact a vendor isn't much better than a KB article.

No criticism.....but whoever the anonymous Troll is, he obviously dug this
one out of the archives. I had pointed out to Dave a while ago that one
doesn't have to create a new Restore Point for WinME (#9) and he did remove
that. Not sure about XP, but assume it uses the same Restore system.

While it does get annoying after a while, on the MS ng's we do use 'boiler
plate' replies to common problems. I see nothing wrong with that. Saves
time and solves problems.

It isn't bogus, but posting exactly the same reply 400 times, whether
appropriate or not, is somewhat exaggerated.

A pointer to a web page would be just as good, and welcomed by many. I suppose
that Clay won't object to host David's instructions on his pages. After all,
they are more usefully and up-to-date than some of the old and obsolete stuff
currently on Claymania's anti-virus pages.

Quite correct. A new help page would be most welcome on the acv pages.

Yeah, yeah, we know about the cobwebs. Wink
We're currently working on updating/revising/eliminating/etc.
Anybody want to (ahem) volunteer to help...?

I was going to ask about those strange strings of signs, totally foreign to
me, but now that isn't necessary anymore, Zephyr.
More and more I am getting used to stick with the basics.
It helps to avoid a heap of trouble.

Harry.

His posts may seem like canned responses, but he does tailor them to the problem at hand. It is sometimes best to use
the removal tools just to eliminate malware as the cause of the complaint.

Another very good reference source to help with the recurring questions
about malware removal. Takes some effort to put that together, doesn't
it? I'm sure the Troll won't appreciate the work you put in to it.
