Still doesn't work for me, Art.
Updater keeps trying 204.118.102, 204.118.23.103 and 204.118.23.101
but each produces the error "Failed: bad file descriptor".
Possibly there may be a problem with the route from my ISP in the UK .
I'll try again tomorrow. >> Stay informed about: F-Prot for DOS updater problem |

That should be 204.118.23.102 etc of course. >> Stay informed about: F-Prot for DOS updater problem |

I got that a couple of months ago. I forget whether what I did was delete
the contents of the directory and unzip a recent backup, or just started
afresh with FP-UP downloading the program again. One or the other. Either
way it worked.

Thanks for your reply, Art. I am still unable to connect to
ftp://ftp.f-prot.com from my regular ISP. However, I have tried using a
different ISP and a connection is made. Clearly the problem is with my ISP,
Ntlworld, and I will complain to them but from previous experience this
will take some time to sort out!
Optional site selection would be a very useful feature. Can you provide a
link to Bob Green's updater?
TIA,

Art,
Here is the essence of my problem. My ISP uses a number of Inktomi servers
around the country for dial-up. The one that I am connected to by default
is at present very unreliable and cannot connect to ftp.f-prot.com although
it can connect to www.f-prot.com. For web browsing I can simply set the
proxy server setting to an alternative server. However, using your F-Prot
Updater and similar software it is impossible to select a proxy server.
As a temporary workaround I have made a hosts file entry which sends
requests for ftp.f-prot.com to one of the addresses of www.f-prot.com and
everything works fine.
Is there any possibility of putting a proxy server selector at the front
end of your FP Updater? Alternatively, can you suggest any simple software
which would do this?

I take your point. I hope there will be more DOS version updates!

That's great. It's in your mailbox.
