Archived from groups: alt>comp>anti-virus (more info?)

Dear Group,

I'm using Symantec Corp Edition 8.0 and I see on my server in taskmanager
that rtvscan.exe is using a lot of cpu time between 90% and 100%. I have a
80 Gb on data on this server.

This is Windows 2000 Server SP4. Exchange 2000 SP3.

Is this normal behavior.

Can anyone advise me ?

Thanks in advance

Kind Regards,
Shiva

Is this all the times or just after the first install? rtvscan is the engine
doing a scan on your hard drive, which usually I schedule at night to avoid
that

The scans which you schedule are on demand. Real time scan scans all the
time. So if you change a file or it will scan it immidiately. I believe
thats the rtvscan component i believe but not sure. Yes my rtvscan is
using a lot of CPU time all the time.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Best Regards,
Shiva

It's taking up 10,000K on my machine, which seems to be low as far as I'm
concerned for a real time scanner.

Dear Group,

Thanks guy's

I see that I had two scans scheduled. I removed one. What is a bit strange
that SAV is scanning 70 Gig in aproximately 16 ours. Is this normal ? Its a
Dell 1400SC 1 Gig processor 1.2 GB Memory with Exchange on it. All Win2k.

Regards,
Shiva
