Hi,
While I enjoy viewing movie files that I get from friends or from
other sites online, I'm always hesitant to view WMV files because
sometimes they can contain malicious code. So I try to stick to
viewing Mpeg files, since I heard these don't contain embedded scripts
(although I'm not completely sure if that's true).
I view my movies with Media Player 9, and under the Security tab I
have "Run script commands when present" unchecked, and "Do not run
script commands and rich media streams if the Player is running inside
a Web page" checked. So I assume that protects me.
Still, I'd like to know if the movie files I download contain any kind
of executable scripts. Does anyone know if there is a program that I
can use to scan my movie files to see if they contain any scripts? I
scan my movie files with anti-virus and anti-spyware programs, but I'm
not sure if those programs would recognize any malicious scripts
embedded inside a movie file.
Also.. is there a "safer" movie viewer program besides Media Player
that ignores scripts hidden inside movie files?
Any replies will be greatly appreciated!
