CPU Hog Warning-AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5.0.50

The other day, I downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5.0.50. I immediately
shut off automatic updates, real-time scanning, and one other process
that loads with Windows (no, I don't remember the name, and I've already
uninstalled the program).

Right around the same time, I also updated my Logitech webcam software,
which, it turns out, is known to hog CPU.

Imagine my surprise when the uninstallation (if that's even a word) of
the Logitech software did not solve the problem I was having.

My computer was almost unusable, and I couldn't imagine what was causing
the problem. It wasn't just CPU cycles; it's a memory hog and the HDD
was spinning all the time.

After a couple of hours of "when in danger or in doubt, run in circles,
scream and shout), not to mention a good night's sleep, I ran driver
verifier. I've had this problem with Logitech before--a mouse driver was
just killing my computer--and I figured that somewhere along the line,
I'd installed something I didn't remember. Well, my memory isn't that
far gone, but sure enough, AVG had planted an unsigned driver on my
machine. I uninstalled the whole mess, and everything is running
smoothly again.

I found nothing in Google or Google Groups when I did a search, so I
thought I'd make this post for the next poor schmuck that comes along
with the same problem.

Given that I'm have a Dell laptop with XP SP2, there's no doubt in my
mind that s/he will be along shortly.
