Of the two free versions, which would be considered the better of the
two: Bitdefender or AVG and why?

Thanks,
Mark

Hands down Bitdefender beats AVG big time so much so I switched after
seeing all AVG missed!

The BEST is neither of them, but of the two, Bitdefender.

Grisoft FREE AVG provides "On Demand" and "On Access" scanning.

BitDefender 8 Free version is an "On Demand" only scanner.

It is "On Access" scanning that helps to protect your PC.

I strongly suggest a solution that provides both "On Demand" and "On Access" scanning.

Since BitDefender Free is only an "On Demand" only scanner it can be used used to supplement
an already installed AV application performing both "On Demand" and "On Access" scanning.

Yeah I was toying with the idea about suggesting replacing AVG with AntiVir but, I left that
alone -- this time.

Are there problems with AntiVir?

It has a slightly higher False Positive rate in Heuristic detection. This is NOT really a
problem if you use the Qurantine capability.
