Avira...antivir has better detection rates than AVG (as borne out by av
comparatives),is very low on resources, but can be more problematic in
updating ,and reliable functioning ,especially on older machines such as
98/me.Some have lots of problems ..some have none.Try it and see.

The free antivir does not have an email scanner (the premium has) ,but
resident scanner scans on writing to disk anyway

We often use Avira when doing cleanups, as it will install and
run in Safe Mode, and it's easy to apply updates manually.
However we don't know much about what it's like for normal
running. >> Stay informed about: Avira or AVG 7.5, Which is better? |

I used Avast before switching to Avira. Both are good. I tried AVG,it
insisted on telling me a very old file created before any version of
windows was infected. I didn't like it.
Only problem with Avira is there's a harmless conflict with Zone Alarm
that caused ZA to show continuous activity in system tray. For this
reason I might one day revert back to Avast, but like I said it's harmless.

I've used AVG and Avast and feel that Avast is much better constructed, an
I've never had any trouble with it for many years. The updates are
automatic and seamless.
I have no information about Avira.

Is there anyway of installing AVG or Avira free versions and not have it load as a startup program, so that it can be run as a 2nd AV check when necessary? I.. |
