Does Norton Antivirus 2005 pop up a window when it detects a local
program listening on a port the way Windows Firewall does? My
installation doesn't do this.

Norton Anti-Virus wont do this.
But Norton Internet Security will (although IMO its a piece of garbage)

Are you certain? Note that Norton Antivirus 2005 contains a limited
function firewall it calls "Internet Worm Protection".

In the Norton Antivirus help file, it says:

===
Listen events
A listen event occurs when an application, such as a Web server or
multi-player game, opens a network port for listening. This means that
the port is preparing to receive a connection from the Internet. If the
listen event does not match a rule, Norton AntiVirus generates a Program
Control alert, which allows you to permit or block such traffic in the
future.
===

but I never get the alerts allowing me to permit or block. The Windows
firewall, which Norton Antivirus recommended disabling, did do this.

Thanks,

Gregg
